Let's Explore, Connect and Capture...

Namaste! I’m Manoj Yadav — a professional photographer, photography tour leader, and workshop facilitator based in Varanasi, India

My journey began in 2008, working closely with world-renowned photographers, filmmakers, journalists, and international travellers across India. For many years, I worked behind the scenes as a fixer and facilitator, learning how projects truly come together on the ground.

For the past five years, I have been working full-time as a professional photographer, photographing every day — not only for clients, but for my own long-term personal work. This daily practice has allowed me to build deep, genuine relationships with spiritual communities and access hidden, rarely photographed spaces that are not visible to casual visitors.

Deep local connection and photographic practice

Varanasi is not just my base — it is my classroom, my archive, and my ongoing project.

Through years of respectful presence, conversation, and return visits, I have formed trusted relationships with Sadhus, Naga Sadhus, Aghoris, temple caretakers, boatmen, cremation workers, and families living along the ghats. Many of the places I photograph are not tourist locations, but lived-in, working, spiritual spaces that require time, sensitivity, and trust.

I continue to explore hidden alleys, remote villages, and lesser-known ritual spaces on a daily basis, always photographing with permission, respect, and patience. This constant fieldwork keeps my vision sharp and my understanding current — and it is this lived experience that I share with photographers who work with me.

My approach

My work is guided by cultural respect, and long-term relationships. I believe strong photographs come from understanding, not rushing.

I am known for combining professional discipline with warmth, humour, and empathy, creating an environment where photographers feel confident and subjects feel respected. I don’t simply point out scenes — I help you recognise moments, read situations, and bring your photographic project clearly into the frame.

Whether you are at the beginning of your journey or refining an established practice, I am committed to sharing my knowledge, field experience, and practical insight to help raise your photographic level and strengthen your visual voice.

Where and how we work together

We can work together for a day, multiple days, or on extended projects, anywhere in India, depending on your needs.

Photography can be done using a mobile phone or camera — the emphasis is always on vision, timing, and story, not equipment.

My primary subjects include:
- Spiritual communities: Sadhus, Naga Sadhus, and Aghoris
- Tribal communities
- Remote and rarely-visited villages
- Street life, rituals, and everyday human stories

I am also available for street photography, documentary photography, and festival photography. Typical festivals might include:

- Holi (Mathura–Vrindavan)
- Diwali
- Durga Puja
- Camel Festival (Rajasthan)
- Kumbh Mela
- Dev Deepawali
- Ganga Mahotsav
- Kartik Purnima

My promise

I offer more than access or guidance — I offer time, and real experiences, built on long-term trusted relationships.

I look forward to exploring with you, helping you connect deeply with India’s spiritual and cultural life, and supporting you to capture photographs that are thoughtful, respectful, and true — images that reflect both your vision and the reality in front of you.
